Rams WR Van Jefferson wins Super Bowl, sprints from stadium to witness son’s birth

Home-field advantage at the Super Bowl turned out to be a huge plus for Van Jefferson.

Like the rest of his teammates, the comforts of Sofi Stadium surely provided a slight edge for the Los Angeles Rams receiver in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. But the proximity to home meant more to him than most.

Jefferson’s wife Samaria Jefferson was pregnant with the couple’s second child — a son — leading up to the game. She was due any minute — officially Feb. 17. But the boy didn’t wait that long.

NFL Network’s Bridget Condon reported mid-game that she was “pretty sure” she saw Samaria leaving the stadium on a stretcher to give birth.

The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, who profiled the Jeffersons ahead of their big week, confirmed the report, writing that Jefferson grabbed their five-year-old Bella and sprinted to the stadium exit as soon as the game was over.
