Mike McDaniel says his staff is not concerned about Mike Gesicki’s blocking ability

The Miami Dolphins have a number of important decisions to make this offseason with new head coach Mike McDaniel at the helm.

One of the biggest choices the team will have to make is whether or not to bring tight end Mike Gesicki, who is currently a free agent, back for the 2022 season and potentially beyond.

It’s been noted numerous times that blocking from the tight end position is one of the most crucial aspects of McDaniel’s offense that he’s bringing to Miami, and Gesicki hasn’t exactly been the best in that department during his career.

However, during McDaniel’s media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, the coach assuaged that storyline being the reason that Gesicki wouldn’t be back.

“There are multiple ways to use players,” McDaniel said, transcribed by Joe Schad of the Palm Beast Post. “We’ve had tight ends in our history that have been featured pass catchers. We have no problem, hesitation or concern in Mike being able to block.”
