Why Tom Brady’s surprising NFL return just killed the value of a $518,000 football that he once used in a game

Tom Brady’s decision to return to the NFL is likely leading to some serious buyer’s remorse for at least one football fan, who spent more than $500,000 over the weekend to buy what they thought was the football from Brady’s final career touchdown pass.Β 

The touchdown pass was thrown against the Rams in Tampa Bay’s divisional round playoff loss and after Brady announced his retirement on Feb. 1, it looked like the ball, which Mike Evans threw into the crowd, was going to be worth a ton because it was the final TD pass of Brady’s career.Β 

The ball ended up in the hands of Leland’s Auction House, who took bids on it from February 12 to March 13. When the bidding closed on Saturday night, the final number for the ball ended up being $518,628.Β 

Although the buyer was likely thrilled that he won the auction, he didn’t even get to enjoy himself for a full 24 hours, because exactly 20 hours and 13 minutes later,…
