The Rams cut Johnny Hekker in the first week of the new league year, moving on from the veteran All-Pro punter. It took them a few weeks to find a replacement, but they landed one in Riley Dixon.
They signed Dixon to a one-year deal on Tuesday, bringing aboard the former Broncos and Giants punter.
Here are five things to know about Dixon as he joins his third team.
He’s a former high school QB
Dixon didn’t play quarterback his entire high school career, but he did line up under center and throw passes until he was a junior at Christian Brothers Academy in New York. He transitioned to punter and kicker in high school, and was Syracuse’s punter for three full seasons from 2013-2015.
In Syracuse’s season-opener in 2014, Dixon threw the game-winning touchdown pass in double overtime on a fake field goal. He’s thrown three passes in the NFL, completing one of them for a 16-yard gain in 2016.
