IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa Athletics Department announces promotions and ticket timeline for 2022 home football games, along with the spring practice date that is open to the public.
The Hawkeyes will conduct open public practice in Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, April 23, beginning at 9:45 a.m. (CT). The open event will be the final practice of the spring and is presented by Scheels. Additional information will be released prior to the event.
The 2022 season will kick off Sept. 3 against South Dakota State in the first of three straight home games. Opening weekend will feature the celebration of 50 Years of UI Women’s Athletics, presented by the Eastern Iowa Airport.
The annual FryFest will be held Friday, Sept. 2, at the Iowa River Landing, celebrating everything Hawkeye, including special celebration of UI Women’s Athletics. The Iowa Letterwinners Club will celebrate the 2022 Hall of Fame class throughout the weekend.
The following weekend features the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series contest against Iowa State, with the Cy-Hawk Trophy on the line. Sept. 10 will mark Iowa’s first home game against the Cyclones since 2018. The Hawkeyes defeated Iowa State, 27-17, last season in Ames.
The Hawkeyes host Nevada (Sept. 17) on Family Weekend, which is also the Gold Out Game, with fans encouraged to wear gold. It will also be the annual Extra Yard for Teachers Day as Iowa salutes teachers from around the state.
All three of Iowa’s nonconference opponents advanced to postseason play in 2021, with Iowa State (7-6) and Nevada (8-5) participating in bowl games and South Dakota State (11-4) winning three games in the FBS playoffs.
Iowa’s opening Big Ten Conference home game is against Michigan (Oct. 1) in a rematch of the 2021 Big Ten championship game. It is the ANF Black and Gold Spirit Game, presented by the Iowa Farm Bureau. This contest features the annual black and gold striping of Kinnick Stadium.
