While the SEC slate is always fun to watch, it’s always rewarding to have a non-conference game or two to look forward to.
On3’s Mike Huguenin has ranked his top-25 best non-conference games of the 2022 season, and Arkansas has two games making the list.
Checking in at No. 12 is the October 15 game at BYU. Although it’s not considered a “power-five matchup”, the Cougars have proven to be a solid program by winning at least seven games in 14 of the last 15 seasons. BYU has also won ten or more games in seven of the last 15 seasons.
One of the more exciting games on the schedule is the season-opener at Razorback Stadium against a College Football Playoff participant from a season ago, Cincinnati, which is ranked No. 3 of the best non-conference games of the season. The Bearcats will have more eyes on them than ever before, as college football fans are interested to see if they can build on their historic 2021 season by being the first “Group of Five” program to compete in the College Football Playoff.
According to Winsipedia, the meetings with Cincinnat and BYU will be the first in program history. BYU is 7-7 all-time against teams from the Southeastern Conference, while Cincinnati is 17-46 against teams from the SEC, with a chunk of those games coming against nearby Kentucky, who owns a 21-9-3 record over the Bearcats.
