There are several high profile quarterbacks who have had successful collegiate careers with the Texas Longhorns.
Vince Young and Colt McCoy may be two names that immediately come to mind, but recent signal-caller Sam Ehlinger certainly etched his name among program history over his four-year career as well.
However, one of the Longhorns primary issues over the last decade has been the inability to find consistency at the quarterback position. The program took a step forward with Ehlinger, but still fell short of a conference championship.
When the national media and college football fans mention whether or not Texas is “back,” they’re referring to the past success that Young and McCoy brought to the program. Since then, the Longhorns have been attempting to get back to national relevancy.
Steve Sarkisian is hoping either Quinn Ewers or Hudson Card can right the ship and bring a championship back to Austin in the near future. If Ewers indeed wins the starting job to open the season in 2022, he will become the 11th starting quarterback for Texas since 2001.
