Quinn Ewers dishes on why he transferred from Ohio State to Texas

The Ohio State football program had an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot heading into last fall. C.J. Stroud ended up putting up astronomical numbers on his way to becoming a Heisman finalist, but behind him was a high four-star prospect, Jack Miller, five-star recruit Kyle McCord, and one of the most hyped prep prospects of all-time, Texas native Quinn Ewers.

Two of those guys left when Miller transferred to Florida and Ewers followed behind to his home state of Texas, but Ohio State brought in another five-star signal-caller in Devin Brown to be in the room with Stroud and McCord.

But back to the mystery surrounding Ewers. He committed to Ohio State, and took some massive NIL money, all while previously being brutally honest about the Texas program as a reason why he chose the Buckeyes over the Longhorns.

So what gives? Why the change in heart? Ewers and OSU seemed to be a marriage made in football heaven with the quarterback friendly Ryan Day still making all the moves in Columbus, so it sure felt like there was something else we simply didn’t know about.

Well, as luck would have it, Ewers broke his silence over the situation for the first time when he was made available for an interview session last week. And, as it turns out, it really wasn’t all that complicated and had to do with simply being closer to home.

“I grew up always watching the Longhorns play, wanted to be in that burnt orange, and you know, there was a little obstacle in between, but I ended up here and I’m very thankful for all the opportunities God has given me, and I’m just excited to be back in the home state,” said Ewers. “At the end of the day, I just wanted to be closer to my family and friends and stuff like that.”

So, there you have it. Ewers still has a ton of endorsement money and he should do more than fine with all of that with the ultra-rich Texas program. You can’t blame a kid for wanting to be closer to home, we just hope he gets the same…
