A.J. Brown, Titans working on long-term contract extension

The Tennessee Titans and Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown continue to work on a new contract extension that will keep the Pro Bowl pass catcher in Tennessee for “a long time,” according to Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday Brown is among a handful of young receivers that will skip offseason workout programs while attempting to get a new deal. The Titans opened their program on Monday.

Brown, 24, is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2022 and wants the long-term security of a new deal. He has produced 185 catches for 2,995 receiving yards (16.2 yards per catch) and 24 receiving touchdowns over 43 games in the NFL, including two 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He also caught a touchdown pass in each of the Titans’ last two playoff games.

The market for wide receivers is exploding after Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill were traded to new teams and signed lucrative new deals. Russini reports the Titans are “not open” to trading Brown, a Pro Bowler in 2020. Coach Mike Vrabel has said the same.

Brown was a second-round pick of the Titans in 2019. Given his production, age and the rising price of wide receivers, Brown could be looking for a new deal worth $25 million or more per year.
