Travis Dye is intent on making his one USC season count

Travis Dye was an excellent football player for the Oregon Ducks. A consistent producer out of the backfield, Dye was an essential cornerstone piece of coordinator Joe Moorhead’s offense. Moorhead knew how to use Dye as an offensive weapon, mixing carries and pass catching in a dynamic package.

Dye was not the reason Oregon’s offense struggled in 2021. Quarterback and wide receiver — mostly quarterback — prevented the Ducks from truly flying. Oregon’s wings were clipped twice by Utah, the team which prevented UO from winning the Pac-12 championship. Dye did what he could, but other parts of the Oregon offense simply weren’t good enough to help the Ducks rise to a higher level.

Now, Dye — partly inspired by the chance to come home to Southern California — will don a USC helmet and play for Lincoln Riley.

Appearing on the USC-produced broadcast Trojans Live, Dye repeatedly mentioned “a new chip on my shoulder,” an indication of his desire to rise to a fresh, new challenge in his career. Dye gets to play in a much more souped-up offense compared to what he had at Oregon. His actual role might not change as much, but he gets to play in Lincoln Riley’s system, and he will be expected to be a leader for the Trojans in 2022.

Here is his appearance on Trojans Live:
