There was a calm before the storm at Oregon’s 13th spring practice on Thursday morning.
With the sun shining in Eugene once again, the Ducks took practice outside to get their last prep in before the annual spring game takes place on Saturday afternoon in Autzen Stadium.
While players were jumping around and getting after it, there was a lack of intensity that has been seen so far this spring. No cracking of pads, no coaches yelling over the loudspeaker, and a sense that the real show is going to come in a matter of 48 hours.
We saw a few notable players return to the field after missing Tuesday’s practice, and a couple of notable absences as well. Here are our takeaways from the morning’s action:
Notable Returners
There was some concern amongst the Oregon fanbase on Tuesday when it was reported that linebacker Noah Sewell was absent from practice, which head coach Dan Lanning said was due to him being “under the weather.” Safety Bryan Addison was also absent for the same reason.
On Thursday, both players were back on the field and going through all of the drills in the portion of practice that media members were allowed to watch.
It should be noted that Sewell looked to be laboring a bit through practice, and from my vantage point, didn’t look like he was feeling too well. Nonetheless, he participated in all of the drills set before him, and looks on track to play on Saturday afternoon.
Notable Absences
For the absences, we are going to start with a player who was at practice but did not participate in any drills past the flex period to start things off. CB Christian Gonzalez, who was held out of practice for precautionary reasons on Tuesday, once again went off to the side with the rehabilitation group after the team split up into individual drills.
