The Lincoln Riley era at USC started in late November, but its first on-field incarnation began on Saturday with the Trojans’ spring game in the Los Angeles Coliseum.
It couldn’t have started any better.
This program and fan base are eager to see what Caleb Williams can do. Williams is this team’s most important and transformative player. He is the main reason USC has a chance to win the Pac-12 and compete for big prizes this year. Though USC needs to see improvement on defense at this spring game and on into the summer, let’s be honest: The Trojans and their fans needed to be reminded why Caleb Williams is so special. They needed to get a taste of what is to come.
They got it on the first drive.
Caleb Williams hit teammate — and fellow Oklahoma transfer — Mario Williams for a touchdown to complete the first possession of the day, giving a high-OU flavor to the new-look USC offense.
You can see the natural and instinctive chemistry the two Williamses have already developed. That is going to be a huge asset for Riley and USC this season.
