Penn State offensive tackle Rasheed Walker is looking to become the highest-drafted Penn State offensive tackle in an NFL draft since Levi Brown was the fifth-overall player selected in 2007. But whenever Walker is eventually drafted by an NFL team this year, Walker could be preparing to move to a new position at the next level.
In an interview with The Draft Network, Walker discussed his career at Penn State and what he is preparing for with the NFL. In the interview, Walker explained that he has discussed with a few NFL teams the possibility of playing another position on the offensive line.
โCertain coaches have asked me how I feel about playing different positions throughout the process. They specifically wanted to discuss positions I havenโt really played previously, such as guard,โ Walker explained to The Draft Network. โI pretty much just told them Iโm open to playing anything.โ
First of all, thatโs a smart answer. NFL teams can never run short on offensive linemen (neither can college teams), and having linemen capable of playing multiple positions provides flexibility for the roster, which is always a key factor in making draft selections for such positions. But Walker actually having experience playing guard can come in handy for any NFL team, and knowing Walker is open and comfortable doing whatever it takes is exactly the kind of attitude that is received well in NFL meeting rooms.
โI just wanna be on the field and help the team at the end of the day,โ Walker said. โI wanna contribute and win games by any means necessary. Thatโs how I handled that. I donโt have a problem with playing a different position. โ
Walker says he has had at least a virtual meeting with โpretty much every team in the leagueโ but noted he has had in-person meetings with the Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers.
