2022 NFL draft profile for Tigers’ Zakoby McClain

2022 NFL draft profile for Tigers’ Zakoby McClain

Although Auburn cornerback Roger McCreary is getting most of the noise from the Plains heading into Thursday’s NFL draft,  he isn’t the only player looking to be selected.

Linebacker Zakoby McClain is expected to be a seventh-round pick if he does end up getting selected this year. Despite that, the longtime linebacker for the Tigers has certainly made his mark at Auburn and will be looking to do the same thing for whatever team selects him in the NFL draft.

Here’s an overview of McClain’s stock heading into the draft:

Draft Stock

One of McClain’s biggest knocks is his size — he’s 5’11, 228 pounds, which is rather undersized for a linebacker. Other linebackers have been able to produce at his size with superior athleticism, but unfortunately, his Combine measurements are rather average for the position.

That being said, there are positive things to look at when it comes to McClain’s game. He’s particularly aggressive at the line of scrimmage and can be disruptive in the backfield, netting a particularly impressive eight tackles for loss for 18 yards in 2021. McClain likely would not start, but he could become a contributor on special teams or serve as a good backup for whatever team selects him later in the draft.
