Predicting the Vikings 2022 NFL draft class

On Monday, I wrote about what I would do with the Vikings draft class. It went a different direction than I was expecting, but it ended up looking really good.

For this mock draft, there isn’t a lot we can surmise from Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. However, I can confidently predict he will do three things

Target premium positions with premium picks
Maximize the market
Select younger players with premium picks

This is strictly projection based on how the organizations Adofo-Mensah previously worked for operated. It is something that I feel confident in because of his background and belief in analytics and data.

This mock draft will be made with those things in mind. But also keep this in mind, there can be selections that happen outside of these parameters based on how the board falls and if the talent value is too good to pass up.

After two months of focusing on exploring different possibilities, it’s time to predict. Here is my best projection for how the Vikings will draft this upcoming weekend using The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Simulator.

Round 1, Pick No. 29: Clemson CB Andrew Booth Jr.

Trade: The Minnesota Vikings send pick No. 12 to the Kansas City Chiefs for picks 29, 94 and a 2023 first-round pick.

The value was not there at pick No. 12. Both Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Derek Stingley Jr. were off the board, as well as Kyle Hamilton and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Maximizing the market will be what Adofo-Mensah prioritizes.

Trading back to the end of the first round to acquire both day two capital for this year, along with a first round pick next year, is something I expect will be done to maximize this roster and future window.

Booth Jr. has the size and athleticism to thrive in any scheme. He is an excellent cornerback that won’t turn 22 until the end of September. If Kaiir Elam was still on the board, he might be the pick because he will be 20 years old on draft…
