San Francisco 49ers 2022 NFL draft needs

The 49ers don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft, but their offseason has made their draft interesting nonetheless.

Deebo Samuel’s trade request could push them into the first round and jumble their draft needs on the fly. Center Alex Mack may also retire which could change how the club operates once they do pick.

On top of that they have a handful of needs that all have a case as the biggest thing they need to address over the three-day selection process.

We created a 10-point scale based on, well, nothing, frankly. Then we  used that highly-scientific scale to put every position in order of lowest to highest priority for the 49ers in the 2022 draft. Here’s what we came up with:

San Francisco may pick a QB late because they typically go with three signal callers in the building, but an undrafted free agent would do the trick.

San Francisco has one of the top LB units in the NFL. This will fly up the list next year if either Dre Greenlaw or Azeez Al-Shaair exit in free agency.

This would be higher on the list if Kyle Shanahan wasn’t the 49ers’ head coach. A UDFA or two would provide plenty of competition to push the RBs behind Elijah Mitchell.

An argument can be made for this one to go higher, but if the 49ers are content with not having another pass catcher behind George Kittle at TE then they can forego the position and be okay.
