Alabama saw two players selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, which brings Nick Saban’s total to 41 first-round selections during his time as the head coach of the Crimson Tide. Evan Neal and Jameson Williams both have new homes and will look to kickstart their professional careers.
Neal was the first former member of the Crimson Tide to be selected. The New York Giants utilized the seventh overall pick, the team’s second in the first round, to draft the offensive tackle.
The Detroit Lions traded up to No. 12, also their second pick in the first round, to take Williams, the speedy wide receiver off the board.
Both players join teams that are in desperate need of help in different ways. Neal can protect a quarterback on the verge of being replaced and Williams will be an offensive spark for a franchise that longs for a player whose energy can match that of head coach Dan Campbell.
