USC LB Kana’i Mauga goes undrafted, will try to become a UDFA

The USC Trojans’ defense struggled in 2021, and the 2022 NFL draft is a testament to that.

Drake Jackson went to the San Francisco 49ers to join up with fellow Trojan Talanoa Hufanga, but no other defensive player was picked. Chris Steele, Isaiah Pola-Mao, and Isaac Taylor-Stuart did not hear their names called as members of the Trojans’ secondary.

Then, there were questions regarding Kana’i Mauga. The USC linebacker decided to forgo his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.

Now, Mauga has to find an NFL team as an undrafted free agent.

Mauga’s draft spot was the toughest to predict of all the Trojans players, and most mock drafts had him going undrafted.

USC had only three players taken in the entire draft, a fitting and predictably bad end to the Clay Helton era of USC NFL drafts. The next draft will include some Helton players, but it will be the first USC NFL draft class to receive at least one season of coaching from Lincoln Riley.
