2021 draft day trade between New York Giants and Bears now complete

A year ago, the New York Giants, who were led by then-general manager Dave Gettleman, and Chicago Bears made a draft day trade that carried two years worth of significance.

The Bears acquired the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft from the Giants, which they used to take quarterback Justin Fields.

The Giants took the Bears’ No. 20 overall pick, which was used on wide receiver Kadarius Toney. Big Blue also acquired the No. 164 overall pick, but they traded said pick to the Denver Broncos to move up in the third-round to get Aaron Robinson at No. 71.

Meanwhile, the Giants also acquired two picks in the 2022 NFL draft from Chicago — their first- and fourth-round selections.

The Bears’ first-round pick turned into No. 7 overall this year, which the Giants used for Alabama offensive lineman Evan Neal. The fourth-round pick ended up being the No. 112 overall pick, which the Giants turned into San Diego State tight end Daniel Bellinger.

In a more simplified view, here’s how the 2021 draft day trade shook out:

Chicago Bears get: QB Justin Fields
New York Giants get: WR Kadarius Toney, CB Aaron Robinson*, OT Evan Neal, TE Daniel Bellinger

Thank you, Dave Gettleman? It may be hard to give him any credit but he set the Giants up well with those trades.
