The Washington Commanders selected eight players in the 2022 NFL draft. Washington began the draft with six selections, but moved back twice and added two more picks over the weekend. The Commanders kicked off the trading in round one, agreeing to a deal with the New Orleans where Washington moved back five spots.
We graded each of Washington’s picks. We were particularly impressed with some of the talent the Commanders added on day three. Earlier this week, we noted how the Commanders were ranked No. 4 in a study showing which teams were successful in rounds 4-7.
So, how did others view Washington’s draft? We know you can’t offer a fair grade until at least three years, but draft grades are fun. Here are how some other outlets viewed the Commanders’ 2022 draft haul.

Analysis: The Commanders were able to recoup the third-rounder lost in the Carson Wentz deal (via a Day 1 draft trade with the Saints) while finding a quick and sure-handed receiver in Dotson to help Wentz succeed and complement Terry McLaurin. Mathis will be a solid rotational player, and Robinson has the speed-power combination to be a good NFL back.
Addressing the safety spot was a must on Day 3 for Washington, and Butler was the best choice. Howell will prove to be an excellent pick in the fifth round whether or not he steps in for Wentz as a rookie. I love Paul as a guard, moving inside at the pro level just like Brandon Scherff. Turner’s receiving skills will be used right away, as the team does not have enough options at tight end.
