Dane Belton became the 17th defensive back and the 81st player coached by Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz to be selected in the NFL draft after the New York Giants called his name in the fourth round with the No. 114 overall selection.

Belton established himself as one of the best players on the Hawkeyes’ defense over the past several seasons. The 6-foot-1, 205 pound defensive back started all 14 games this past season for Iowa and made 26 starts over his Hawkeye career.

Belton tied for fourth nationally with his five interceptions in the 2021 season and helped Iowa lead the nation in that category with the team’s 25 interceptions. The Tampa, Fla., native finished the 2021 season with 46 tackles, seven pass breakups, three tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries.

Belton was named first-team All-Big Ten by the league’s coaches and media for his efforts last season as he played a large part in Iowa’s 10-4 finish in 2021. During the past three seasons where Belton appeared in eight or more contests each season, Iowa posted an overall record of 26-9.

Let’s take a look back at Belton’s career with the Hawkeyes through these amazing photos.
