Ranking Steelers offensive positional units after the 2022 NFL draft

With the 2022 NFL draft in the books, it’s time to update our rankings for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive positional rankings. The Steelers went heavy on offense in the draft and upgraded two units in particular. Let’s see how they shake out.

1-Wide receiver

In two draft picks the Steelers turned its worst offensive group into its best. The addition of George Pickens and Calvin Austin III not only finishes off the Steelers depth chart behind Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool, but it also gives the Steelers two tremendous big-play threats with field-stretching speed.

2-Interior offensive line

If wide receiver is the most improved unit on the team, the interior offensive line isn’t far behind. The Steelers hit free agency hard adding James Daniels and Mason Cole. Both guys are quality starters and can play either guard or center. Daniels is probably the best offensive lineman on the team right now.

3-Tight end

This group is led by second-year star Pat Freiermuth. Freiermuth is a complete tight end and figures to be an even bigger part of the offense this season. Zach Gentry showed great improvement last season and made Eric Ebron expendable. You add in rookie Connor Heyward who could be the team’s third tight end and this unit is shaping up nicely.

4-Quarterback

Pittsburgh used its first-round pick to select former Pitt star Kenny Pickett. This really adds to this quarterback group and not only gives the team a viable franchise quarterback candidate but should light a fire under Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

5-Running back
