Scouting service says Jets had unprecedented 1st round

The Jets came away from the 2022 NFL draft with an unprecedented haul thanks to their first-rounders, according to one scouting service.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted that the Jets are the first team in the history of Scouts Inc. to land three players with a grade of 92 or better (on a 100 scale) in the same draft. Scouts Inc. has been evaluating prospects for ESPN since 2004.

CB Ahmad Gardner and WR Garrett Wilson both had grades of 93, while DE Jermaine Johnson received a mark of 92. Only 14 players in the draft received grades of 92 or better. Gardner went fourth overall, while Wilson went 10th. Johnson went 26th after the Jets traded up to get him.

This loaded first-round comes a year after Joe Douglas nabbed three players with grades of 90 or above (QB Zach Wilson–93, OG Alijah Vera-Tucker–91 and WR Elijah Moore–90). The 2008 Dolphins were the last team to do that.

The Jets are banking on these two classes moving forward. Zach Wilson is the hopeful franchise quarterback entering his second season, while Garrett Wilson and Moore could blossom into elite weapons for him. Vera-Tucker made the PFWA All-Rookie team but will move from left to right guard in 2022. Johnson and Gardner, meanwhile, are expected to be potent members of Gang Green’s defense for years to come.

If Scouts Inc. is any indication, New York’s future looks awfully bright.
