Early 2023 NFL draft projections for the Panthers

Whether they’re way too early, entirely early or never too early—first-round mocks for the 2023 NFL draft are already out and about.

So, what do the experts have in store for the Carolina Panthers after what was a solid showing at the event a week ago? Check out their projections for yourself.

Draft Wire: Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon (No. 7 overall)

“Ever since Luke Kuechly’s retirement, the Panthers have been missing a true impact player at the second level of their defense. Sewell is big, athletic, and has all the potential to be worthy of a top-10 pick.”

ESPN: Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida (No. 6 overall)

“The Panthers should start scouting the 2023 signal-callers. I’m not so sure they view Matt Corral as a long-term option, and Sam Darnold will be off the books after this season. Plus, Carolina could have a new regime in place, especially if it’s picking this early again. Now, Richardson is a huge projection — the 6-foot-4, 236-pound passer played in just eight games and started once last year — and has some turnover issues. But he’s extremely talented and poised for a breakout season in his first as a full-time starter.”

CBS Sports: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama (No. 7 overall)

“The Panthers wisely passed on a QB at the top of the ’22 draft, bolstered the offensive line with Ickey Ekwonu, and were still able to get Matt Corral in Round 3. But the team also used a third-round pick on Will Grier a few years ago and he’s no longer with the team. The point: We like Corral, and he may get a chance to play next season, but if the team loves any of the QBs in this class you’d have to think they’d target one.”
