Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened in North London in 2019. It is the home of the English premier League (EPL) Tottenham Hotspur and has a seating capacity of 62,850 for soccer, but a little less for the NFL.
The Giants-Packers clash will be the fifth NFL game played in the stadium. On Oct. 6, 2019, the Oakland Raiders defeated the Bears, 24-21, in front of 60,463. One week later, 60,087 fans saw the Carolina Panthers top the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 37-26.
The NFL did not play an overseas game in 2020 because of the pandemic. Last year, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted two more NFL games. On Oct. 10, the Atlanta Falcons beat the Jets, 27-20. Seven days later, the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated Miami, 27-23. The attendance for those games was 60,589 and 60,784, respectively.
Since the NFL inaugurated the International Series in 2007 with the Giants and Dolphins, 30 games have been played in London: 23 in Wembley, four in Tottenham Hotspur and three in Twickenham.
This year, 10 NFL teams will play international games in three countries, including three in London, the first NFL game in Mexico since 2019 and the first-ever regular-season game in Germany (the Giants played a preseason game in Berlin in 1994).
In addition to Giants-Packers, Jacksonville will play in Wembley and New Orleans will play in Tottenham Hotspur. The Buccaneers play in Allianz Arena in Munich on Nov. 13 and the Cardinals will play in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on Monday night, Nov. 21.
The entire 2022 NFL schedule will be released on Thursday, May 12 on NFL Network.
