How the Sooners finished in ESPN’s FPI since 2005

The Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the most consistent teams in college football since the turn of the century. Though they haven’t reached the pinnacle and won that eighth national championship, they’ve been in contention several times and been a dominant force in the Big 12 since their last national title.

The Football Power Index is a predictive rating system designed to measure team strength and project performance with the aim of correctly predicting games and season outcomes. The ESPN FPI runs 20,000 simulations and updates them each week throughout a season using data collected as the season goes on.

In the last 17 seasons, the Sooners have finished outside the top 10 in ESPN’s Football Power Index just five times. The Sooners have been inside the top five seven times since the ESPN FPI came into existence in 2005 and finished as the No. 1 team in the index in 2007.

Take a walk through time to see how the Oklahoma Sooners finished in ESPN FPI since 2005.
