On3’s Sam Spiegelman enters prediction for four-star RB Rueben Owens in favor of Texas

Texas appears to have re-emerged as the heavy favorite to land four-star running back Rueben Owens.

The Longhorns have been through a rollercoaster of emotions throughout Owens’ recruitment. He was once committed to Texas back in Feb. of 2021, then later decommitted roughly four months later.

The El Campo native is a highly sought running back in the 2023 class and is rated the No. 3 overall prospect in Texas, according to On3’s consensus rankings.

Over the last few months, Owens took two unofficial visits to Michigan State and Texas A&M, along with an official visit to Georgia. However, Texas has remained in consistent contact with the Owens family and still appear to have a strong relationship.

The Longhorns even regained a commanding lead in his recruitment on Tuesday. On3’s national recruiting analyst, Sam Spiegelman, entered a prediction in favor of Texas to land Owens. The On3 recruiting prediction machine now favors Texas with a 90.7% chance, followed by Texas A&M with a 3.4% chance.

This is obviously just a prediction and carries no weight in what Owens will ultimately decide, but it’s a positive sign that Texas is trending in the right direction.

Owens rushed for 2,989 yards and 46 touchdowns as a junior last season. He added on 15 receptions for 252 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
