Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Jimbo Fisher this season.

Martrell Harris enters his freshman season with the Texas A&M football program as one of two linebacker signees, joining fellow freshman Ish Harris (no relation). Harris began his football playing career at The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas. Unfortunately for Harris, a collarbone injury ended his junior season after only three games. But in his senior year, he shined, tallying 67 total tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions, and was named Texas District 13-6A Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021 season and was named a member of The 2022 Under Armour All-American team. Harris joins the talented 2022 recruiting class looking to find his place on the depth chart in year one.

Martrell Harris is currently projected as a reserve Will linebacker in Texas A&M’s 4-2-5 defensive scheme, led by the first-year defensive coordinator for the Aggies, D.J. Durkin. Harris is the primary backup to linebackers Tarian Lee Jr. (Redshirt Junior) and Edgerrin Cooper (Sophomore). Harris’ high school tape shows a versatile linebacker who mostly played on the outside or on the edge as a pass rusher, sometimes venturing outside the box showing his athleticism while laterally moving in space.
