Ducks Wire celebrated, and rightly so, when Dan Lanning outdueled Lincoln Riley in the battle for coveted offensive lineman Josh Conerly. Now, after USC won a big scramble for elite Pittsburgh transfer Jordan Addison, the Trojans are riding high and have gained a measure of leverage against Oregon in the pursuit of a Pac-12 title game berth.
That title game spot is now an open competition, in the sense that it is no longer restricted to division champions. It has been a remarkable week for USC, and Oregon fans and analysts are trying to process what has happened.
Ducks Wire editor Zachary Neel reacted to USC’s successful pursuit of Jordan Addison in the transfer portal:
After Thursday, Trojan fans are certainly feeling good about themselves, as they should. In the span of less than a year, they’ve turned a struggling former powerhouse into what looks like a flashy and dangerous team out west. There are still a lot of questions to answer, particularly on the offensive line and throughout the defensive backfield, Regardless, it’s clear early on in Riley’s tenure that he is extremely capable of luring top talent to Los Angeles and choosing to #FightOn.
None of this is designed to make Oregon fans feel bad, either. The Ducks should feel extremely confident about what Dan Lanning and Co. are building up in Eugene, and be excited about what’s to come in the 2022 season. Rather, this is just an acknowledgment of what is taking place down in Los Angeles, and anticipation for what’s to come.
The Ducks and Trojans won’t meet in the regular season this season, but the future of that rivalry is surely going to be entertaining.
