Pac-12 Championship Game schedule is a talking point once again

Now that the Pac-12 Championship Game, already relocated to Las Vegas from Santa Clara, has been upgraded to a top-two matchup in the conference, the game should be a bigger attraction this year and in coming years.

Sure, USC and Lincoln Riley play a part in all of this, but even without factoring USC into the equation, a Utah-Oregon game carries more weight if those two teams have the two best records in the conference. Division championships often create an imbalance in these conference title games β€” look at Clemson fattening up against four-loss opponents in the ACC over the years β€” so the Pac-12 has chosen to make sure its best teams are playing in its showcase event.

Given the upgraded nature of this game, we have a very simple question for Ducks Wire analyst Donald Smalley:

*

Trojans Wire: Should the Pac-12, in light of this change, seek to put the football championship game on Saturday night, or is Friday night the right play?

Donald Smalley, Ducks Wire: College football belongs on Saturday. They should seek that 12:30 or 5 p.m. slot on ABC or ESPN. Having the best two teams in the game will make this more appealing for networks. 5 p.m. on Fox on Friday is unacceptable, sorry. Like it or not, ESPN is the king where college football is concerned. That game HAS to be on that network.
