Texas A&M Player Profile: Defensive Lineman, Isaiah Raikes

Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Jimbo Fisher this season.

Isaiah Raikes is entering his junior season with hopes to perform at an All-SEC level, and becoming an extremely important part of the nose tackle rotation with fellow junior McKinnley Jackson, and sharing snaps with the highly touted No. 1 player in the 2022 class, Walter Nolan. Before his playing days at Texas A&M began, Raikes played varsity football at the defensive tackle position for four seasons at St. Augustine Prep in Richland, New Jersey, racking up 158 total tackles, 14 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles from his freshman to senior season, accounting for 8 sacks during his junior season alone. Raikes committed to the Aggies on June 16, 2019, forgoing the option to redshirt during his first year, yet only appeared in 6 games, recording just 1 total tackle. During the 2021 season, Raikes appeared in all 12 games while making his first career start against Colorado in week 2. Overall, Raikes make 8 total tackles for the year, mainly due to his snap count being limited by the impressive play of then senior nose tackle, Jayden Peevy.
