Checking in on former CU Buffs football players in the USFL

The new USFL (United States Football League) has been a surprising hit. With the NFL and college football in the offseason, the USFL has provided fans with a bit of entertainment on the gridiron.

More than that, it has given players a perfect opportunity to be noticed by NFL evaluators and scouts with training camps beginning to circulate across the country.

The Colorado Buffaloes have a few alumni playing in the USFL, and will the season in full force, let’s examine how the four former Buffs players are doing in the inaugural year of the USFL.

DELRICK ABRAMS JR., TAMPA BAY BANDITS

The Tampa Bay Bandits drafted Delrick Abrams Jr. during the USFL Draft. The former Buff spent some time in the NFL and has registered 11 tackles on the year for the Bandits under head coach Todd Haley.

DREW LEWIS, HOUSTON GAMBLERS

Yes, former Buff Drew Lewis plays for the Houston Gamblers and head coach Kevin Sumlin.

Unfortunately, Lewis has played a minimal role, and to make matters worse, Houston has just one win on the year thus far. Perhaps Sumlin and company give Lewis and others more playing time with the season going down the drain quickly.

EVAN WORTHINGTON, PHILADELPHIA STARS

Just look at Evan Worthington having all the fun in the USFL.

Worthington also spent time in the NFL and has recorded 15 tackles for the Stars this season.

DEVIN ROSS, MICHIGAN PANTHERS

Devin Ross has been far and away the best former Buff in the USFL. The Panthers’ wide receiver has caught 23 passes for 243 yards and one score despite a poor 1-5 record so far for Michigan.
