Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at the Denver Broncos’ defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo, No. 90.
Before the Broncos: Kongbo (6-5, 256 pounds) played in the Canadian Football League before signing a futures contract with the Broncos earlier this offseason. He was one of two CFL players who worked out for Denver in June. A pass rusher, Kongbo played defensive end in the CFL. He was drafted in the first round of the 2019 CFL draft. In two CFL seasons (26 games), the Tennessee product totaled 28 tackles and four sacks. He may be a better fit as an outside linebacker in Denver’s 3-4 scheme, but he’s currently listed as a defensive end on the roster.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Kongbo is a long shot to make the Broncos’ Week 1 roster. Although the 26-year-old has a decent shot to make the team’s practice squad. That’ll give the former CFL first-rounder time to develop.
