RB Eno Benjamin seeing game slow down, awaiting opportunity

Arizona Cardinals running back Eno Benjamin enters his third season in the NFL hoping to finally carve out a role on offense for the team. He had a few opportunities in 2021 and will battle for the backup role behind starter James Conner this offseason.

He recently appeared as a guest on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and discussed this offseason and the opportunities he has.

“Everything’s really slowing down,” he said. He will benefit from having a full offseason for the first time in his career.

“(Running backs coach James Saxon) talks about it quite a bit as far as how much things have changed since I was a rookie with the COVID year, how I had to learn versus what’s going on now,” he said. “It’s my first time seeing rookies on the field during OTAs.”

Since Chase Edmonds departed in free agency to the Miami Dolphins, a role is open behind James Conner.

“My job here is just to go in day by day just doing what I can do to get better, (doing) what I can do to be on the field alongside with James and whoever else they want to put out there,” he added. “This is the opportunity and this is where it starts and I’m more than ready for it.”

He explained that if there is one thing he needs to do to show coaches he can have a greater role, it is “not thinking, just going out there and knowing what to do and being confident what to do.”

The Cardinals have added veteran Darrel Williams, although it has not yet been announced, which adds an additional obstacle in Benjamin’s path, but he can only control what he can control.

“My job is just to be ready, and when that time comes and show that.”
