Important NFL dates, times for Kansas City Chiefs in June of 2022

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of their OTAs and look to wrap Phase 3 of the offseason workout program in June. This is the last month before the team kicks things into high gear in late July ahead of the 2022 NFL season. There are also some key dates and events specific to the Chiefs coming this month.

Here’s a quick look at the NFL calendar for June and what fans should be aware of over the course of the next month:

June 1: Deadline for NFL teams to use ‘June 1’ tender

This is the deadline for the Chiefs to use the “June 1 Tender” on any unsigned Restricted Free Agents who received a qualifying offer for a right of first refusal. This action would cause such players to be subject to the CBA’s “June 15 Tender” provision. K.C. doesn’t have any restricted free agents this year, so this particular date won’t be significant for them.

June 2: Money comes off the books for players who were cut with “post-June 1” designation

Players who were designated a “post-June 1” cut in the offseason will finally come off the books for NFL teams. Expect a miniature wave of free agency to occur at this point in time among remaining veteran free agents. Several NFL teams will see a boost to their cap space. The Chiefs didn’t designate any players as a “post-June 1” cut, so they won’t be benefiting in any way from this rule. The last player that the team released in this fashion was S Eric Berry.

June 7-10: Final week of OTAs

The final leg of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) begins in the second week of June. Typically, this week of OTAs is the most well-attended as players and coaches want to finish strong.
