Nebraska’s season openers through the years

The Nebraska Cornhusker football team will start the 2022 season with a Big Ten West matchup with the Northwestern Wildcats from Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. It’ll be the first time Nebraska played overseas since facing Kansas State in 1992 in Tokyo, Japan. The Huskers would win that early December clash by a score of 38-24.

With that being said, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the opponents and results from every season opener since 2000. The Huskers have had a good track record in season openers with an 18-4 record over the last 22 games. Unfortunately, recent history has not been kind to Nebraska, as all four losses have occurred in the previous seven openers. Hopefully, that trend can be reversed when the Cornhuskers face the Wildcats on August 27th from Dublin.
