Tory Taylor listed as the No. 4 specialist by Mel Kiper

Punting is winning. Iowa Hawkeyes punter Tory Taylor has taught us that and has shown us that throughout his career in Iowa City. And has he ever been successful at his job. One could argue he does his job as well as, if not better, than anyone else on the Hawkeyes.

Due to this, Taylor finds himself coming in as the No. 4 kicker or punter on ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s ranking of the top kickers and punters in the country. It’s been quite the journey for Taylor. He hails from Australia where he played Australian rules football. Now, Taylor is one of the top at his position in the country and one season away from finding an NFL home.

During the 2021 campaign, Taylor averaged over 46 yards per punt and had nearly 50% of his punts downed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. He truly can change a game and set the offensive and defensive units up for great success.

Taylor downing opponents inside their 20 on a regular basis paired with the defense that led the country in interceptions was a recipe for success that played an integral part in being crowned the 2021 Big Ten West champions.

Expect to see Taylor doing the same thing for the Hawkeyes this fall. His accuracy, power, and ability to flip the field gives Iowa an advantage in the field position battle every single week.

Taylor will get his chance in the NFL as former Australian football players have and with another good season has every chance to sneak his way into the 2023 NFL draft.
