Ranking the Pac-12 teams by running back production heading into 2022

Not long ago, we took a look at the best overall running backs in the Pac-12 conference heading into the 2022 season to see where the hierarchy of talent stood. As it turns out, most of the talent is down in Southern California with the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins.

We wanted to continue that conversation, though. If we expand from best RB to best backfield, how does the conference shake out? No longer will we look at singular players, but Pac-12 backfields as a whole. Of course, without stats, it’s hard to judge what an incoming freshman will offer a team, so we ranked the 12 teams based on “returning production,” or a player who has played college ball and will be returning for another year.

Again, the Los Angeles schools fared well in this exercise, but it’s interesting how the rest of the power balance in the conference took shape. Take a look:
