Texas A&M Football Recruiting Profile: 2023 WR, Jaquaize Pettaway

Jaquaize Pettaway is a Top-10 wide receiver in the nation, and a top-10 prospect in the state of Texas in the 2023 class, ascending up the recruiting ranks as of late, and has been a prime target for the Aggies since early last year. Pettaway has spent his early playing career playing varsity football at Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas, also competing in track and field during the offseason. During his 2020 sophomore season, Pettaway tallied 55 receptions for 1,004 yards and 9 touchdowns, while winning Texas District 16-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year at season’s end. During his 2021 junior season, his number took a small dip, notching 50 receptions for 794 yards and 7 touchdowns, but nevertheless was selected Texas District 16-6A first-team.

As a prospect, Pettaway currently stands at 5-11, 170lbs, and has room to add weight with the potential to continue growing in the next couple of years. As a pre-requisite of sorts for up-and-coming wide receiver prospects, Pettaway displays the versatility to play all three receiver positions due to his athleticism, initial quickness off the line of scrimmage, and lateral agility in slot based situations, while showing some run after the catch ability on multiple occasions. He is also an eruptive vertical burner, with the ability to separate against man coverage at a high rate, making him an instant candidate to become an X receiver at whatever school he chooses.
