Former Tigers on ’25 under 25′ list

LSU may have taken a bit of a nosedive on the gridiron over the last two seasons, but this is still a program less than three years removed from a national title.

A number of stars from that team — and other former Tigers drafted in a similar timeframe — have had very nice starts to their professional careers, and there is a solid cohort of young players who played in Baton Rouge during their college days.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin recently put out his “25 under 25” rankings for the NFL entering 2022, and there were a number of LSU standouts to crack the list. Here’s where each of them stands.

No. 23 – LB Devin White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Is he a perfect linebacker? Surely not, as evidenced by slip-ups in coverage. But you can’t teach speed, and he has it. Over his last two seasons, as a lynchpin of Todd Bowles’ championship defense, he’s been a missile at the heart of their unit, totaling 268 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 34 QB hits and 23 tackles for loss.

The former fifth overall pick has mostly lived up to that high selection. He was a Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2020 when he was a key fixture of a Super Bowl-winning Bucs defense. White also earned a Pro Bowl selection last year, and he should continue to develop into one of the best linebackers in the league.

No. 6 – WR Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

A walking — no, sprinting — highlight reel, Chase couldn’t have had a more promising debut, teaming up with old LSU buddy Joe Burrow to give the Bengals the most dangerous QB-WR pairing this side of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams (now defunct). Just get the ball in his hands. That’s the game plan with Chase, who averaged 18 yards per catch as a big-play machine.
