Clemson defensive end K.J. Henry takes shot at South Carolina

Having an in-state rival in college football can result in a lot of back-and-forth banter, and Clemson defensive end K.J. Henry participated in it on Monday.

Replying to Big Game Boomer’s map of the loudest college football stadium in every state, Henry clapped back after the college sports account selected South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium as the loudest in the Palmetto State.

Henry, who has played at Williams-Brice twice in his career, is undefeated against the Gamecocks. Last season, Clemson shut out South Carolina on the road, 30-0, with the Tigers jumping out to an early 10-point lead in the first quarter. In 2019, Clemson went up 14-0 after the first quarter as well, so clearly, Henry’s jab at South Carolina points to the Tigers’ early success at Williams-Brice.

Big Game Boomer’s defense for the selection was that “Clemson is only loud for big games now. Death Valley is 3/4ths empty when they play the Dukes and Georgia Techs of the world.”

In terms of capacity, Clemson’s Memorial Stadium can hold 81,500 fans compared to Williams-Brice Stadium’s 77,559.

Although the gap in capacity is small, the gap in game results is quite large. Clemson has won every game in the last seven matchups between the two programs and outscored the Gamecocks 286 to 104 in that stretch. Clemson’s all-time record against South Carolina is 72-42-4, with 53 of the victories occurring on the road in Columbia, South Carolina.
