Salvatore Cannella named to All-USFL offensive team

On Thursday, the USFL announced via Twitter their All-USFL Team Offense. Among those listed was former Auburn tight end Salvatore Cannella, who plays for the New Orleans Breakers.

Cannella has hauled in 32 receptions for 364 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season. The Illinois native ranks sixth in receiving yards among other players in the USFL. The Breakers are 6-3 on the year so far and are ranked second in the South division just behind the Birmingham Stallions.

Cannella played at Scottsdale Community College before transferring to Auburn. In his time at the junior college level, he hauled in 29 receptions for 449 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He was highly regarded as he was ranked as the No. 1 JUCO tight end in the 2017 class. Schools like Maryland, Texas, and Rutgers were all in the mix, but he ultimately chose The Plains.

In his time at Auburn, he had 25 receptions for 330 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Perhaps his most memorable moment with the Tigers was in 2019 when he caught a 14-yard TD pass against Alabama. After going undrafted, he struggled to make a roster. However, his luck changed when the USFL draft came along. The Breakers chose Cannella as one of their picks and clearly, it has worked out for the former Tiger.
