Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio takes the football operations one day at a time inside NRG Stadium, but he was really speeding up the process with regards to a movie release.
Caserio joined “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 June 16 and expressed how much of a fan he was of the original “Top Gun” film from 1986.
“I absolutely love the first one. I think that’s one of those movies — all of us have movies where you’re kind of sitting in your office or walking around the house and you start reciting lines and people are wondering, ‘What the Hell are you talking about?’ So, it’s one of those movies,” Caserio said. “You could literally go through the entire movie from start to finish and even now sit here and talk about, ‘Oh, yeah, I remember that, I remember that,’ the actual verbal articulation of what they said.”
Even though Caserio was 11 years old when the movie hit theaters, the film starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer left an impression on him — such that he was blown away by the first trailer release for “Top Gun: Maverick” in July 2019.
“I told my wife, ‘We got to go. We got to see this,’” said Caserio. “She was like, ‘Okay, all right,’ just kind of left it alone for a little bit. So when it came out, I said, ‘No, we’re going. We’re going to go see this.’
“So, it was a date night. It was an excuse for us to get out of the house and go, because those are few and far between. But, no, it was great. We loved it. I loved it.”
Caserio was especially impressed with how the film didn’t fall into the same rut that sequels normally do, and that it wasn’t another cash grab.
Said Caserio: “Tom Cruise looks the same. So, whatever he’s doing, I’m sure it’s all natural, but whatever he’s doing to keep himself looking the way that he does. So, that’s one thing. There’s just — I don’t know. I think the expectation was it was going to probably be well done, production, the…
