The Texas Longhorns will face big time opponents over the coming seasons. Despite the anticipated move to the SEC, Texas is still set to face more tough nonconference tests.
J.D. PicKell of On3 Sports brought the Texas future schedule into focus, discussing who Texas will face in 2024. If Arch Manning is a Longhorn by this point, he’ll likely have the challenge of facing Michigan in the second game of the season.
Premier second-game matchups are nothing new for Texas starting quarterbacks. Colt McCoy had the unenviable task of facing the Ohio State Buckeyes in his second start. Texas will again face the Buckeyes in 2025 and 2026.
Quinn Ewers might face the Alabama Crimson Tide twice as a starter before leaving Austin. However, the move to a new league would make the 2024 matchup against Michigan even more important for the Longhorns.
2024 figures to be a big season for Texas. By that time, Texas will need to be vastly improved to handle the rigors of an SEC schedule. Additionally, Steve Sarkisian likely aims to have his team optimally functioning by his fourth season. Texas hopes it will be up to the challenge.
