Defensive end Montez Sweat just wants to win

Montez Sweat spoke at Washington’s mandatory minicamp last week, fielding questions following practice.

“I’m not necessarily changing my approach. I’m just worried about winning. I think all that other stuff will take care of itself.”

“It (last season) was a difficult time. But I mean I’m just holding on to things that you grow from and facing adversity and moving forward, just remembering those you have lost and trusting God.”

“I wasn’t as depleted as I usually am because I didn’t play a full season, so I really got straight to it (offseason workouts). I just trained in my home town back in Atlanta. I was just focusing on my body, recovery, strength and pass rushing skills.”

Asked if he was holding up, Sweat responded simply, “I am fine.”

“There is definitely motivation. When you have a down year you want to bounce back, show those nay-sayers that you still got it. But I mean this year I am really just trying to prove myself where I am not really worried about the outside at all.”

“Jack (Del Rio) has always showed love and respect to me. That is all I know from him. His political views and all that other staff that he feels, that is his opinion. We might not have the same outlook on things, but as long as he shows love and respect like he has with all the guys in the work place…”

Regarding management wanting to re-sign Sweat:

“It is a credit to what I have done here and how the organization trusts me. It is definitely a motivation to keep on doing, keep on showing that I can be great, that I can keep on getting better.”

“… I am just honing in on all of my techniques. I am not really worried about that (resigning) right now. I’m just worried about winning.”

“Benjamin (St Juste) is a good athlete. I feel like he did good on the outside. I am sure he will do good on the inside as well. He is a guy that you can play anywhere on the bottom end. Any guy like that is versatile like that, is a plus to the…
