Another day, another infielder. How many times am I going to have to say that.
On Monday, sophomore infielder Will Safford entered his name into the transfer portal. Safford appeared in 32 games for the Tigers, but 26 of those were in 2021. He had just five at-bats in 2022.
He’ll look for more opportunities elsewhere with a diminishing role this season. He has a career batting average of .075 with a .260 on-base percentage, eight runs, one RBI, seven walks and 12 strikeouts.
Safford is the eighth LSU baseball player to enter the transfer portal. Giovanni DiGiacomo, Collier Cranford, Brody Drost, Anthony Priester, Michael Fowler, Brennan Holt, and Alex Brady all have already declared for the portal, and some have even made their commitments.
Next year’s baseball roster will look very different from this season, and coach Jay Johnson’s work will be cut out for him heading into Year 2 in Baton Rouge.
