One of Clemson’s former wide receivers will compete in the United States Football League (USFL) playoffs this weekend.
Playing for the Philadelphia Stars (6-4), Diondre Overton and his team will take on the New Jersey Generals (9-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT. The Generals defeated the Stars in both matchups this season, most recently on June 18, when the Stars fell short 26-23.
Overton spent four seasons at Clemson from 2016 to 2019, winning two national championships. In his last season, he was fifth in receiving yards for the Tigers with 352 on 22 receptions while playing in 11 games. Coming out of high school, he was rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite.
Now with the Stars, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound Overton has 13 receptions for 200 yards and three touchdowns this season. In the first matchup with the Generals in May, Overton had two receptions for 15 yards and one touchdown.
The winner of Saturday’s matchup will play either the New Orleans Breakers or Birmingham Stallions in the league championship game on July 3.
