Washington Commanders’ hearing had some head-shaking moments

Wednesday’s performances of some members of our U.S. Congress were embarrassing and frustrating.

I told yesterday how Republican Pat Fallon (Texas) used his time to question NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on “DeflateGate” with the perspective of an idolatrous teenage fan who won’t grasp the importance of the issue at hand.

Another embarrassing moment yesterday for the U.S. Congress was the questioning by Democrat Rashida Tlaib (Michigan). I use “questioning” rather loosely.

It wasn’t long and Tlaib was clearly the loudest speaker of the day, interrupting, displaying little poise and deportment.

Tlaib (and others) demonstrated they are not effective thinkers, speakers or communicators. Tlaib verified she is an even less effective listener, demanding to be heard but not so willing to listen.

For instance, Tlaib, reaching the end of her “questioning” when referring to the toxic workplace culture of the Washington Commanders, asserted to Roger Goodell, “It could have been your daughter, sir.”

What a moment that could have been for her. However, in typical Tlaib fashion, she didn’t possess a grasp of the moment to be quiet and wait, allowing those words to sink into the ears of many watching. She simply got louder and talked faster, interrupting Goodell as he attempted to answer.

Aggressively she pounced, “Would you commit to doing more?” Once again she could have waited for a response. But as he started, she again, emphatically interrupted, “I mean, right now you say you did everything possible.  You have to do more. Yes, or no, are you willing to do more?”

More forceful, she appeared entirely unaware she was less effective. Now all Goodell had to do was respond, “Yes.”

How much do some of these elected officials actually know about communication? Goodell began adding a sentence to his, “Yes” response, and would you believe she again interrupted him? “Would you recommend that Dan Snyder be removed as a team…
