Of course Caleb Williams is the best quarterback in the Pac-12 Conference entering the 2022 college football season. There should be absolutely zero debate about that point.
However, ranking quarterbacks in the Pac after Caleb is obviously a lot more difficult than previously thought.
On3 Sports unveiled its top five Pac-12 quarterbacks for the coming season. After Caleb Williams, it’s a mess.
Cam Rising of Utah should certainly be second. Dorian Thompson-Robinson of UCLA should be somewhere in the top five. One quarterback who definitely shouldn’t be on the list is Bo Nix of Oregon. One can make several common-sense conclusions about a top-five QB list before arriving at final selections.
The On3 list clearly ignores those common-sense conclusions:
The one nuance which affects these rankings — and which might explain their unusual results — is that On3 is using NIL valuations in arriving at its list. Even then, UCLA’s quarterback getting snubbed doesn’t seem to fit with this top five.
