Malachi Nelson throws a dart at Lincoln Riley 7-on-7 camp

USC fans are excited about their football program primarily because of the coach-quarterback combination they currently have: Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams, working together and continuing what they started at Oklahoma.

However, once Caleb Williams goes to the NFL, Malachi Nelson is next in line as a Trojan signal-caller who will receive the benefit of Riley’s coaching and guidance.

Everyone knows that Nelson is an elite, ballyhooed recruit. It always helps to see why a player has acquired lofty status. The scouting reports and the buzz become actualized in living action. Just look at this frozen-rope touchdown pass Nelson threw at Lincoln Riley’s football camp on Saturday, part of a 7-on-7 tournament hosted by USC:

It is always tempting for a young quarterback to think he can fit the ball into a tight window. This sometimes leads to ill-advised passes which become interceptions. However, if a quarterback’s skill level is really high, there will be moments when a pass has to be thrown into a narrow space.

Nelson can certainly pull it off.
